Wilbur A. Riggs
Tilton ~ Wilbur A. Riggs, 78, of Tilton, passed away at 6:10 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 16, 1997) at the Mavis Winter Foster Home in Tilton.
He was born in Buckley, Ill., on Feb. 19, 1919, the son of the late William A. and Mary Elizabeth (Bailey) Riggs. On July 18, 1941, he married Jane A. Jenkins in Hannibal, Mo. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Betty (William D. Sr.) Schuring of Danville and Judith (Richard) Russian of Tilton; three grandchildren, William D. Schuring Jr. and Amy Russian, both of Danville and Ryan Russian of Tilton; and one sister, Holstine of Danville.
Mr. Riggs was employed as a physical therapist technician at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Danville for 30 years. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army from July 1942 to May 1945. He was a member of the United Church of Tilton and VFW Post 728 of Danville. He enjoyed gardening; hunting, fishing and motorcycle riding.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 19) at the Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center with the Rev. Ron Ziemer officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park with full military rites performed by VFW Post 728 of Danville. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday (Aug. 18) at the funeral home.
