Alberta Mae Katherine Ames, 70, of Danville, died Sunday (Jan. 30, 2005) at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
A celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, at The Church of Later Day Saints, 1949 Bowman Avenue, Danville, with Bishop Aaron Julian officiating. A family gathering and visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, at Pape Memorial Home and Cremation Gardens, 10 E. Williams, Danville, Ill. 61832. Burial will be at Atherton Cemetery in Danville.
Alberta was born July 29, 1934, in Tilton to Albert Eugene and Laura Elizabeth Howie Hickman. She attended Tilton and Danville schools. She served as president of the Women’s Auxiliary for Lynch Fire Department. She served in the auxiliary for 23 years. She had worked for Dairy Queen as a manager for more years than the family can count. She enjoyed working with her good friends Cheryl & Joyce, Bob Jones, and Loretta Harper. She enjoyed crafts, flowers, crocheting, camping and, most of all, she enjoyed her children and grandchildren.
Alberta married Carl Everett Ames on Jan. 13, 1951, in Danville. He survives. Survivors include three sons, _____________ of Catlin, ____________ and __________ both of Danville; three daughters, ____________ of Decatur, __________ of Danville and ______________ of Palmetto, Fla.; four brothers, __________ of Westville, ______________of Danville, ____________of Danville and __________ of Danville; two sisters, ____________of St. Louis and _____________of Covington, Ind.; 23 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Carl Russell; grandson, Zachary and great-grandson, Dale Michael and great-granddaughter, Gracie.
