Heights Woman Dies at 60 in Hospital



Mrs. Bessie Messenger, 60, 413 Avenue A Vermilion Heights, died at St. Elizabeth Hospital Sunday afternoon (Jan. 15, 1950). She had been a Danville resident most of her life.

She was born Sept. 14, 1889, in Iowa, the daughter of James and Lowana Hughes Henry and was a member of the Methodist Church.

Mrs. Messenger is survived by her husband, Bert; five daughters, Mrs Martha Marks, Pilger, Neb., Mrs. Nellie Sandlin and Mrs Pearl Ray, Danville, Mrs. Opal Quartier, Westville, and Mrs. Lillie Reed, Tucson, Ariz. and four sons, James O'Riley and Roy Draper, Jr., Danville, Lewis O'Riley, Westville and Wayne O'Riley, Lynchburg, Va.

Also surviving are 1 sister, Mrs. Anna Jones, Ridgefarm, 3 brothers, Walter, Galt, Calif., William, Harrisville, Mich., and James, Creston, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at the Lincoln Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Fred Payne will officiate and burial will be in Springhill Cemetery. The body will remain at the Barrick and Sons Funeral Home until time of services.
