Mrs. Lola Balsley

Mrs. Lola A. Balsley, 83, a resident of 1320 North Sherdian for 65 years, died at 5:30 a.m. today (Jan. 19, 1983) in Vermilion Manor nursing home. She had been a patient nine months.

Mrs. Balsley was a charter member and president of the Navy Mother's Club. She had attended Lincoln United Methodist Church and Lincoln Grade School.

On July 17, 1967, she and her husband were honored by their children with a celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary. She enjoyed being with her family, traveling, crocheting and sewing.

Born Jan. 1, 1900, in Collison, Ill., she was a daughter of William L. and Rebecca L. Pilkington Strawser. On July 16, 1917, she was married to Merle H. Balsley in Danville. He died Feb. 5, 1972.

Survivors include three sons, William R. of Homasasa Springs, Fla., Ronald D. of Danville and Merle R. of Redwood City, Calif.; three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Betty) Cross of Antioch, Ill., Mrs. Mac (Arclista) Cunningham of Danville and Mrs. Robert L. (Georgeann) Mann of Woodridge Village, Ill., a sister, Hazel Dean Maurice; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by a brother, a sister and a grandson.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Lakeside Funeral Chapel. The Rev. William Malloy will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

The family has requested that memorials be in the form of contributions to Lincoln United Methodist Church.
