Pioneer Resident of City Passed Away Monday At Her Home.
Mrs. Eliza Hayes, wife of Rev. James Hayes, venerable Congregational minister, long since retired, was stricken with heart trouble at her home, 10 Kentucky avenue, while taking a bath Monday forenoon and at 11:40 o'clock was found by her husband. She was removed by friends hastily summoney, and Dr. Leo Fairhall was called. She had been dead several minutes, it is believed, before Dr. Fairhall arrived.
She had been under treatment by Dr. Fairhall for some time because of ailments due to her great age, heart trouble predominating.
Mrs. Hayes was a native of England, born in Devonshire, Jan. 14, 1845, and had been married to Rev. Hayes for half a century. They removed to Danville in 1895, when Rev. Hayes accepted the pastorate of the First Congregational church.
