Arrangements are incomplete at Pape Memorial Home for Ira M. Allen, 83, of 1609 S. Passfield, Springfield, Ill. He died at 6:40 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 18, 1983) in the Danville Veterans Administration Medical Center. He had been a patient two weeks.
Born March 17, 1899, in Blue Mound, Ill., he was the son of James and Amanda Montgomery Allen.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte.

James Handy
James Ernest Handy, 69, a resident of 206 Franklin for two years, died at 12:24 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 18, 1983) in Lakeview Medical Center emergency room. Death was attributed to natural causes. He had been ill since November of 1982.
A darkroom technician in the X-ray department at Lakeview Medical Center, he retired in 1978. He was a graduate of the Jacksonville, Ill., School For the Blind. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.
He enjoyed listening to sports programs on the radio.
Born Oct. 4, 1913, in Hornersville, Mo., he was the son of Lyman Rice and Laura Bell Stevens Handy. He married Marjorie Lee Adams Jan. 6, 1956, in Danville. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, John Lee and Randy Joe, both at home; a daughter, Sandra Dee Handy at home; a sister, Mrs. Leonard (Zelpha) Danelson of Scoby, Mont.; and three grandchildren, Angela Dawn Handy, Gerry Lee Handy and Elizabeth Handy, all at home.
Tentative arrangements call for services at 1 p.m. Saturday at Berhalter Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul White will officiate. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Thomas Hiram Cory, 58, a resident of 1917 S. Washington in the Central Park community for about four months and a former resident of 27 Tennessee, died at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 18, 1983) in Lakeview Medical Center. He had been a patient a day.
An employee of Esco Corp., he was a machine operator for 35 years. He was a past master of Anchor Masonic Lodge 980, a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Danville, Low 12 Club of the Gao Grotto, Curtis G. Redden American Legion Post 210 and Bethal Lutheran Church.
He attended Danville schools and was an Army Air Corp veteran of World War II. He enjoyed gardening and fishing.
Born Sept. 24, 1924, in Danville, he was the son of Emmett Hiram and Verna Opal West Cory. On June 19, 1949, he married Ruth Susan Stout in Danville. She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Dean (Diane R.) Strong of Danville; a sister, Mrs. Marylon (Barbara) Palmer of Danville; and two grandchildren, David T. and Dena L. Strong, both of Danville.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Bethal Lutheran Church. Pastor Paul Geisler will officiate. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Pape Memorial Home, with Masonic rites at 7:30 p.m.
The family has requested that memorials be in the form of contributions to Bethal Lutheran Church or to the Hospice Unit at Lakeview Medical Center.

Mrs. Lola Balsley
Mrs. Lola A. Balsley, 83, a resident of 1320 North Sherdian for 65 years, died at 5:30 a.m. today (Jan. 19, 1983) in Vermilion Manor nursing home. She had been a patient nine months.
Mrs. Balsley was a charter member and president of the Navy Mother's Club. She had attended Lincoln United Methodist Church and Lincoln Grade School.
On July 17, 1967, she and her husband were honored by their children with a celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary. She enjoyed being with her family, traveling, crocheting and sewing.
Born Jan. 1, 1900, in Collison, Ill., she was a daughter of William L. and Rebecca L. Pilkington Strawser. On July 16, 1917, she was married to Merle H. Balsley in Danville. He died Feb. 5, 1972.
Survivors include three sons, William R. of Homasasa Springs, Fla., Ronald D. of Danville and Merle R. of Redwood City, Calif.; three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Betty) Cross of Antioch, Ill., Mrs. Mac (Arclista) Cunningham of Danville and Mrs. Robert L. (Georgeann) Mann of Woodridge Village, Ill., a sister, Hazel Dean Maurice; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by a brother, a sister and a grandson.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Lakeside Funeral Chapel. The Rev. William Malloy will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Urbas Funeral Home in Westville for Carl Russell "Rusty" Ames Jr., 13, of Danville Route 4, who drowned Saturday morning (June 16, 1973) in the Vermilion River east of Westville.
The Rev. Robert Miller will officiate. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday and Monday.
The youth was born Dec. 30, 1959, the son of Carl and Alberta Hickman Ames, who survive.
Other survivors include three brothers, ____________, all of Danville; three sisters, _______ of Ladysmith, Wis. and_______________, both of Danville; three step-brothers, __________; four step-sisters, ___________________; and his grandfather, _____________of Danville.

Charles M. 'Chuck' Campbell
Charles M. 'Chuck' Campbell, 75, of Danville, died at 4:45 a.m. Monday (Nov. 11, 1996) at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
He was born Oct. 11, 1921, in Danville, the son of Gene M. and Vera Juvinall Campbell. He married Marjorie Barton on July 28, 1943, in New York City. She survives. He is survived by tow sons, Con (Beth) Campbell of Anacortes, Wash., and Rand (Glenda) Campbell of Danville; four granddaughters, Kristen, Korie, Kelly and Katie.
He served in the Illinois House of Representatives from 1962 to 1980. He ranked eighth in seniority when he retired. Prior to entering public office, he owned Campbell Insurance Agency. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy and for 29 months he was in the Pacific Theater. He had been awarded the Silver Star. He was a member of the Collison United Methodist Church and American Legion Post 210. He had been a Little League Baseball coach at the American Legion ballpark. He enjoyed the outdoors and was a sports fan of all sports.
Memorial service: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lakeside Funeral Chapel; Officiating: Rev. Charles B. Motsett; Visitation: 5-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home; Memorials to Carle Hospice of Danville or St. James United Methodist Church and/or donor's choice.
